Instead of playing as an elite soldier in This War of Mine, you take on the role of a group of citizens attempting to survive in a city under siege, battling against a shortage of food and medicine as well as ongoing risk from hostile scavengers and snipers. The game offers a completely different perspective on conflict.
The cycle of day and night dictates the tempo of This War of Mine. Snipers outside prevent you from leaving your hideout during the day, so you must concentrate on keeping your hideout clean by trading, creating, and tending to your survivors. At night, send one of your civilians on a quest to find materials that will help you survive by scavenging across a series of distinct places.
Make decisions based on your conscience when it comes to life and death. For longer-term survival, try to keep everyone safe from your refuge or give up some of them. There are no right or wrong choices made during a war—there is only survival. It is best to recognize that as soon as possible.
